No summer without Havaianas
In 1962, the havaianas success story began. The Brazilian brand developed the first pair of havaianas sandals based on the Japanese Zori sandals, whose soles are traditionally developed from rice straw. Because of this connection to Japanese shoes, the soles of today's havaianas models feel a bit like grains of rice. A small detail, but one that is still characteristic of the thong sandals from Brazil today. Only 4 years later, the patent for the first sandals was filed. Havaianas thus developed the most famous footwear for hot summer days. Due to a mistake in production, which resulted in green loops instead of blue ones, the company became more adventurous. Over time, the Brazilian label developed more and more colour combinations and patterns, so that around the turn of the millennium, the international breakthrough also took place. The relaxed Brazilian lifestyle conveyed by havaianas is what makes these shoes so popular in numerous countries.
