The slogan "Just do it" is as much a part of Nike as the Air Max or the Swoosh. The world's leading sportswear manufacturer is based in Beaverton, Oregon. Nike is the name of the Greek goddess of victory and could hardly describe the company better. The brand was founded by Bill Bowerman and Philip Knight in 1964, when the company was still called Blue Ribbon Sports and initially sold Onitsuka Tiger shoes, which would later become Asics. In 1971, Blue Ribbon Sports was renamed Nike and the company started to produce and sell shoes. This paved the way for the spectacular success story of the company. The big breakthrough came in 1984 when Nike collaborated with the basketball legend Michael Jordan, with whom they designed the Air Jordan shoe collection. With lucky strikes of this kind and an incredible sense of good design, coupled with excellent product functionality, Nike managed to work its way to the top and to lead the world market in sportswear. The brand convinces with shoes for a wide variety of sports, as well as fashionable sports, streetwear and accessories for every imaginable purpose.
